Biography

Anahí was born Anahí Giovanna Puente Portilla in Mexico City on May 14, 1983. She started her acting career in Chiquilladas, a sketch show in which her older sister Marichelo was also a cast member.

Her career did not take off until she debuted as a telenovela actress in the melodrama Madres Egoístas. Notable parts in Muchachitas, Ángeles sin paraíso, Alondra, Tu y yo, Mi pequeña traviesa, and Vivo por Elena soon followed, but it was not until Primer amor... a mil por hora in 2000 that she was cast in a leading role.

She entered the Mexican hit series Clase 406 in which she portrayed Jessica Riquelme. In late 2003, she auditioned for the lead role in the telenovela Rubí, role which Bárbara Mori ended up with[citation needed]. The following year, Anahí was invited to be one of the protagonists of the Mexican series Rebelde (2004), where she portrayed Mía Colucci. She signed a contract with EMI and integrating herself to RBD, the musical spin-off of the telenovela Rebelde. After having joined RBD, Anahí's fame grew rapidly having signed endorsement deals with Herbal Essences, Avon Cosmetics, and Andrea shoe ware.

Anahí has won awards such as Premio Ariel in recognition of her acting skills.

She has opened her own stores and clothing line.

She has also been praised for her honesty regarding her struggle with anorexia.

Anahí considers fellow RBD band members Maite and Dulce her best friends and sisters and thinks of Christian, Christopher, and Alfonso as her brothers. Even though she is one of the oldest of the group, she has stated that she, more than Dulce, acts like the group's baby sister.

Solo career

In 1996 she made her singing debut with the album Hoy es mañana which include the popular singles "Corazón de Bombón" and "Descontrolándote". In 2000, Anahí moved from Para Musica Records to Fonovisa Records and released Baby Blue, her best-selling album. Anahí went on to receive nominations for the Latin Billboard Awards for the album.

As a solo artist, Anahí managed to sell over 300,000 copies of her albums in Mexico .
